FAQs
In most instances, if your log cabin is less than 25 sqm and you don’t use it as living accommodation, it is exempt. This could be a handy way to add a working or leisure space without planning. If you do want residential accommodation, then liaise with your local authority and planning probably will be needed.
The life expectancy of a log cabin is completely dependent on the treatments and maintenance it receives. For example, using a coating like Restol is highly recommended. If you maintain your cabin well, it can last a lifetime. Think about the lifetime of some wooden boats – and they’re at sea!
Every residential cabin is bespoke and made-to-order so this depends on our manufacturing schedule. And because we offer huge flexibility and many options for customers specifying their ideal cabin, manufacturing times for each cabin can vary considerably. However, as we do manufacture all residential cabins ourselves, we’ll have full clarity on delivery timeframes when you order. Timeframes can range from 4-12 weeks for residential log cabins. Typically, small cabins for leisure or office use indicatively take 2-4 weeks. And sheds take 1-2 weeks. We will confirm the timeframe when you order.
Woodford Log Cabins is committed to delivering a top quality product. Therefore, we have investigated all the options available in terms of timber. We also have vast experience working with timber for over 50 years. As a result, we have chosen Scandinavian Spruce as the most robust and resilient option, ideal for residential log cabins. Grown in harsh conditions, this timber is exceptionally durable yet it’s a very attractive wood with a lovely, light colour and it displays knots, adding character to your log cabin.
The sub-frame e.g. floor joists etc. are all pressure treated, adding to the robust nature of the cabins.
Woodford log cabins are flat-packed and available for delivery throughout Ireland and the UK.
The residential log cabins are designed to facilitate the necessary electrics and plumbing works however these need to be arranged on-site post-delivery. We can direct you on the necessary works and on suppliers who are experienced in this process.
You will need to organise the base or foundation, the assembly of the cabin, the electrics and plumbing and any painting work. We highly recommend that the log cabin is treated with Restol – this will make a significant difference to the longevity of the cabin. Restol can be purchased at a discount for our residential log cabin customers only – liaise with us to arrange this.
In the past this was an issue but now there are insurers who will insure residential log cabins. Liaise with your broker.
We have taken many measures to manufacture top quality Log Cabins to make sure our customers are cosy and warm all year round. These measures include double glazing on all doors and windows, double walls to allow for insulation, top quality insulation materials (100mm PIR), damp proofing, and roof and floor insulation. In fact, not only are the log cabins designed to be comfortable and warm, the energy performance is very strong, making them a great, sustainable option for energy-efficient living.
